Theme: CINEMA – FROM BOOKS TO THE SMALL AND LARGE SCREEN
Book-Film Section, initiated this year by GAUDEAMUS Book & Education Fair proposes a possible area of dialogue between literature and film, in an attempt to present readers and visitors of the fair a small exhibition of books that have been adapted for cinema across time. Masterpieces of literature have become, thanks to big or little screen, masterpieces of cinematography: Papillon, Jane Eyre or Moby Dick stay together with Veronika Decides to Die, Perfume, Great Gatsby or Lolita. A new tendency comes to complete the complex dialogue between literature and cinema: if film is able to bring the book again in the attention of the public, cinema can bring effectively the consecration of some books, such as Slumdog Millionaire or Memoirs of a Geisha, books that have conquered the public first through the screen and then through the written word.
Saturday, 20 November

Book release: Slumdog Millionaire – from book to film, from Asia to Europe – release of a new edition
Guests: Virgil Ianţu, Irina-Margareta Nistor, translator of the book and all those who love (or hate) this story.
